The Operational capability transforms your DXA into a methodical problem-solver that follows structured approaches to complex challenges. This mode enables your agent to break down problems into logical steps and proceed systematically toward solutions.

Leveraging Workflows with Operational Agents

For an agent with operational capability, you can significantly enhance performance by assigning workflows that guide its problem-solving approach. These workflows create a structured framework that ensures comprehensive and methodical handling of complex tasks.

To assign workflows to your agent:

  1. Navigate to Manage Agent → Agent Knowledge tab

  2. Select an existing workflow from your Library to assign it to your agent

  3. Alternatively, click Add New Workflow to create a custom process for your agent

An Operational agent can also generate its own workflow based on the task when no specific workflow is assigned. However, custom workflows tailored to your organization's processes typically produce more aligned results.

Example: Equipment Troubleshooting with Workflows

Consider an Equipment Engineer DXA created from a maintenance engineer's profile and equipped with your company's troubleshooting workflow. This combination ensures your agent follows the same structured approach your human technicians use—performing diagnostic steps in the proper sequence while adhering to your established protocols.

Guided workflows transform complex expert-level tasks into manageable processes. Your DXA maintains focus on each critical step while building toward comprehensive solutions, similar to having an expert consultant guide you through complex professional challenges—but always available and at a fraction of the cost.

This capability is particularly valuable for:
